So much, Yet....

So much has happened. Yet, it is all small things that make up life isn't it?

I started feeling better, but Grim and I spent the day in bed on Saturday watching The Returned. Weird show. Happy I had a gift certificate from Swagbucks to be able to purchase from Amazon. So we have completed the whole first season. Now we need to get into the second that is currently on tv. Maybe HULU will have it?

I needed to get a lamp for my desk. Since moving into my studio, the overhead light and the pole lamp just don't give the right light. Luckily, I had one in the dungeon.... LOL! (basement), it just needed a good cleaning and a new shade. Grim and I went and picked one up yesterday. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to paint the lamp so that it matches better.

Grim, worked in the garage on the car. I got to help.... It now runs again! We are absolutely thrilled about this. He was able to get the new heater core all hooked up. So once we get the new spring for the unit we will have heat. He needs to get a brass fitting for the transmission cooler lines. For some reason the ones we have just didn't want to work properly and got messed up. Easy fix if we can find the part.

My 81 year old neighbor locked her keys in her car and needed a lift to her grandsons house to get the spare key. She told me, she thought she should get one of those cellular phones. She is such a sweet lady.

I finished off my Outlander inspired shawl. Still need to tie in the ends. But I was able to find my shawl pin and model it last night. Very happy its done. I've already picked up the needles and started the shrug that is an official Outlander pattern. I'm using Lionbrand  Landscapes in Boardwalk 201. So even though this is the official pattern its not the coorordianting colorway.

It has been 17 years today that my dad has been gone. This is the first year I haven't relived every memory as it happened. Thats not to say that I didn't think about it. Like right now its 8:14, he died at 8:35. I'm typing here instead of reliving each minute leading up to his passing. I will spend the day honouring his memory.

I have already started Christmas shopping. This always makes for a fun time of the year. Nothing handmade from me. One of these years I want to make all of us Christmas jammies. For this year though most of my shopping will be done on the computer and delivered to my door. I can't say what I got Grim, cause he reads the blog.... LOL! But I will say that he will be impressed with what Santa is bringing him, I've asked Santa for a Handmade loom and a Handmade spinning wheel. This year its about what we need vs what we want. I really need to learn how to spin and how to weave. *Smiles*

Tired of Resting

Ever get to the point when you just get tired of resting. Thats how I've felt most of the week. I know I need to rest and stay warm to get better. Plus, trying to walk my 5 miles a day was totally out of the question as weak as I was.

So what's a girl to do, you ask?

I had yarn in my hands and on my lap most of the week.

Week 10 of Sophie's Universe Complete

And of course I just had to finish Week 11 also!!!!

Only 9 more weeks to go. I did have to go and purchase another hue of pink. Its the first color to run out!

Spent the Weekend in Bed

Yep, that's how sick I've been. Grim and Little Miss, took care of the household chores and the care and feeding of the momma! I'm out of bed today as its Monday and no matter how I feel I need to get back to the tasks at hand. The first one really should be going back to bed as I feel so weak. I will try to keep plugging along as long as I can though. Because that is what I do. That's how I end up getting so sick that I have to spend 2 days in bed. I know, I know.... I'm a stubborn one!

I was able to get a couple rows done on the Oulander inspired shawl. That didn't happen until last yesterday evening right before walking dead came on. Other then that I didn't feel up to doing anything.

It was 30 degrees this morning. I still have 1 window fully open, I'm hoping the sickness that is floating around the house floats out the window. There are a couple of windows that are closed but the storms are still open. This is due to the fact that the weather is still wonky.  We are suppose to get 60 degree weather still this week. Crazy. No wonder why I got sick.

So far this morning I have taken Little Miss to school, had my cuppa coffee, read the blogs and now written the blog. I'm contemplating if I should bundle up under Sophie and get started on week 10 or do I wrap up in another blanket and work on the walking dead shawl? Decisions, Decisions!

Weird Day

I am under the weather. What ever this funk is that I've been fighting for the last 2 weeks seems to be winning. Uggggh!

Which really sucks, because I have a 31 party tonight. I'm ready to go, its just that I'm so tired and my nose is uggy and my throat is coated in yuck. But at least I don't appear sick. Yeah, me!!!

I got all of week 1 done with the Walking Dead Yarn Colorway MKAL, from Jimmy Bean Wool

It reminds me of a line from Road House.... You play pretty good for a blind guy and I thought you'd be bigger! LOL! Since gauging still is a problem for me. I went to Ravelry to see what others got in size. One was 8 & 15, then the next was 8.5 & 15.5. Mine is 9 &18. We shall see how this turns out. Since I'm behind because of a needle issue, I have been able to see upto week 3. I think I'm really going to like this once its done.

This year really has been about spreading my fibre wings! I have done stitches I didn't even know existed. I completed my first CAL. Gave this one to my MIL for Mothers day! This was done with the help of the Crochet Crowd & Mikey!

Realized that I hate the color pink, while learning this stitch! LOL! Ok, well just really have a huge dislike!

Started another CAL. This one is a monster! Can't wait to get done so I can get started on the other 2 CAL that are waiting in the wings!

Made clothing for myself! First time ever! Ok, other then hats and shawls oh and scarfs!

And trying my hand at pattern making!

Great Saddness

With a heavy heart, I come here tonight to write about a great friend.
Even though we never met in person, I felt like I knew her, her family and her car!
We even both had baby cows named after us.

Photo borrowed from A Homesteading Neophyte

She had a great sense of humor and was always ready to lend a encouraging word or paragraph.

We all knew she was ill, she never kept that secret.

Even when she stepped away from blogging she still checked up on us.

The greatest gift she imparted to me was to live it to the fullest, do what you can, while you can, until you can't.

Spread your wings and fly high my friend,
you will be missed!

I will end this post with her words,

Smile Loudly. Life is such a Gift!

Apple Goodness

I was searching for some apple recipes to try out. Since I found what looks to be a couple of really good ones, I thought I would share. I think the apples I have will be put to the dehydrator though, I will be heading to my favorite orchard in the next few days to get fresh ones to use in one or more of these!

Week 9 Completed

Week 9 of Sophie's Universe is completed! I would love to move on to week 10 but the weather has been so crazy. It was 65 degrees yesterday. The sun shone brightly! To be perfectly honest who really wants a 4.5 foot blanket draped on them when it is so beautiful out. I know I don't. Never fear though, I have been keeping busy. I have been working on my shawl, the hexies, the scrap-ghan and the MKAL with walking dead yarn. Once the weather turns back to normal temps, I will get back to Sophie and hopefully, get started on Spice of Life! And maybe even get my studio photo ready!

Toad in a Hole

Where have you been my whole life. Honestly, I think if I would have known about this earlier my life would have turned out so much different! LOL! See I absolutely love grilled cheese sandwiches and I adore dipping eggs. When I was younger I would fry an egg and add it on top of bread that was crisping up in a ton of butter, then I would layer cheese on top, another piece of bread, flip and crisp that side with a ton more butter. So when you cut into it you had melting cheese and warm yolk.... Just divine!!!!!!

The down side to doing that is making sure the egg doesn't over cook and the bread doesn't over crisp and that the cheese doesn't burn.

I haven't made this dish in years. About 2 months ago, I came across the recipe for Toad in a Hole!

Smush the bread in the middle, add the raw egg and top with cheese. Bake and all your wishes come true, well now really, but.....

What you get is a dish you don't have to babysit and not covered in a ton of butter. Actually no butter at all!

Yummmmmm!
