Quick Update

It's well below zero with the windchill.... brrrrr! I have been wearing layers upon layers for days now. Its cold.... the house is set to 59 day and night. We are taking advantage of our hot water bottles and all the afghans that have been made! I was able to get the quilt my Gram made 40 years ago fixed up.... Some of the squares the stitching came undone. So I sew that up. I am now working on a quilt I purchased at a yard sale over the summer. Its hexagon pieces and 11 had to be replaced. Since I'm not much of a sewer... I am just sewing the new material with the seams on the outside... I know.... I know... But at least it will be done and able to be used sooner rather then later. I only have 5 more to do and then fix the big tear in the back. I got it for like $3.... and I know how much work went into making it in the first place and I hate to see all that work go to waste just cause of some material falling apart.

I have been working on my temperature blanket... I have made it into August. Its going to be really big once its done. I'm happy I went with the moss stitch. Other wise it would have been to big. I will use it on the couch or in the car as a backseat blanket. It will be able to keep 3 people warm back there. LOL! I would have been farther along but I got caught up in the messy bun hat craze. So far I have made 2 of them. Since I have long hair and usually wear it up in a pony tail.... These are perfect for me.

My girls are home.... We have been working on the lights, and cookies and general holiday stuff. I can't wait to show off all the homemade gifts. Can't yet cause I have nosey eyes around here... LOL!

So far we have made toll house with white chips and m&m cookies... Today we are suppose to be making pirogi and bath bombs.... I know what a combination... Each girl wants to learn how to do one of these things.... that's why its so varied.

Well, if I don't manage to make it back on here.... Happy Holidays, Festive Yule, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

Winter Furnace Report

A few years ago there was a challenge put out by someone... I can't even remember by who now... But it was about keeping your furnace temp low all season long. Not only to help with cost but also to help with the environmental impact. I took the challenge one step further and made it a game each year to see how long I could wait until I turned the heat on... I went looking through old posts and the latest date I could find was 11-21. Not to shabby. The later it goes on the better, right.

This year is the winner so far.... 11-23-16. The outside temps this morning were 23 and the inside temp was 51. It would have stayed off until after Thanksgiving but Grim is starting to come down with something and I don't want it to turn into anything serious. But it is only on at 61. I will be changing the night time settings to even lower.... We have a programmable thermostat. I would highly recommend to anyone. I love it.... Plus, no one else ever learned how to use it.... so they never turn the heat up.... LOL!

We will continue to use hot water bottles at night under all of our wonderful warm blankets. We will continue to use our oven all winter long.... Not to heat the house, but baking and roasting, yummy foods.... I will continue to make afghans that I can sit under while they get bigger and bigger, keeping me warm as they grow! And I will continue to dress in layers. Its almost winter.... It should not feel like Tahiti in the house.... Well, if I have a wood burning stove it might... LOL!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends out in BlogLand!!!!

Long way around

I know that they say that every journey begins with one step. This journey we are on has taken more then one step and there have been many twists and turns in the road.

Sometimes the path no longer looks like the path. It can get scary out there.

Sometimes wondrous things appear as if out of nowhere.

Hope and Beauty are always around if you just take the time to look.

Even the soul can be sustained if there is faith!

With Love and Light all things are possible!

Seasonal Changes

The leaves are changing, the weather has made an about face once again. Its going to be 80 today. All the bugs that were suppose be dead, have come back to life! And my sinuses are so angry right now!

Then by weeks end it's suppose to be back down into the 50s. With us looking to start closing and winter prepping the windows. Crazy!!! With the cooler weather comes the inspiration to make things. I have been bitten by the quilting bug. I want to make a patch work quilt, king sized for at the property. I'm sure I have enough fabric to accomplish this task. I'm not sure I have the patience. Lol!

I love the feeling of fibre in my hands... hence, the knitting and crocheting. I have always wanted to sew and make great things.... they have always been out of my reach...  trust me its not from lack of trying. So wish me luck.

Busy Busy

The last post was back in June... Time sure fly when your doing nothing... That's not true... I guess I have been super busy. Just not doing the things that I want, but have to do. I worked the Summer away. Can't complain there as we had extra money by me doing that. But the free time I had seemed to just slip right through my fingers as we only just recently got answers to what is wrong with my loved one.... Yes, your count is right heading into 10 months. Doctors and therapy's, oh my! And still no closer to being done with this mess.

I'm up and at um this early because in about a half an hour I'm off to work yet again. Its to be my last day of outside work. Can't complain as its starting to change, the weather. Its not horrible this morning but last week it was so cold my toes were freezing. The weather is turning fickle. So I'm happy to be done for the season. I am looking forward to next year already though. Crazy... LOL! I can say I have learned quite a bit this Summer. Even if I don't stay with Direct Sales, the knowledge I have will serve me the rest of my life.

I haven't done much in the way of needlework. I've been waiting for the change. And last week when it got so cold. I got started on a pair of crocheted Mukluk. I used yarn that I had in the closet.... I love when a plan comes together. They turned out really cute. The pattern wasn't horrible. I got them done in a week. I think the next pair will be faster. I hope.. LOL! I got a enough to make 3 more pairs. I might give them away as gifts or maybe even finally start my etsy store. You never know.

Need to settle in for the upcoming Winter. As they are calling for a nasty one. I really think that I should sit down and come up with a plan of all the things that I would like to accomplish instead of flying by the seat of my pants. I did manage to get most of the yard cleaned up from Summer and started on the winter prep of the yard. It will need to be cut at least 1 more time before we put the mower away.

Our far away dream of the property is still just that. We weren't able to get there at all this Summer. So all the clean up work that we did will have to be redone. Which sucks.... Still don't have the orchard planted. Was so hoping to be in our second year of growth. But that was not in the plans for this year. Plans... Plans... Plans.... that's all I can do for now.

Looking forward to 2017... Cause this year had more lessons to teach then we were ready to learn.

Now that the weather is changing... I will have more time to get back here and write. See you soon!

Time flies... I guess!

I have been so slammed getting my business  ( www.mythirtyone.com/racheln ) up and off the ground. I can say that my efforts are starting to pay off.

My family member that was injured is still injured. 😢 Time will tell what ultimately happens. Due to this we are spending our summer in our backyard. Its not that bad. We have a screen canopy and under it I've added an air mattress. So during this horrible summer heat.

Please don't think that its all been bon bons and wine... lol... well, maybe a few bon bons.

I have been keeping busy doing hand work. I think I would die if I had to drape an afghan on me. 😎 I have a list of work to keep me occupied.

Also my garden has been fabulous this year. I guess that's what happens when your home to water a couple times a day.

As you can see I even had time to finally set up my fairy garden. I've only had the pieces for about 4 years now.

Well, I guess thats about it for now!

Until next,

Time Changes Nothing

Not much has changed since we chatted last!

My family member that is injured, remains so.

Finally, after about 2 months and a month of therapy, we got an MRI.

The results of those we still have to wait for... ugggh!

I have been such a slack when it comes to any needle work.

I finished the main part of The Spice of Life, but still have to do the border.

I'm almost done with the 2nd popcorn square (free time, take with me project) out of 20

I did complete the first part of a viking helmet.

This is one of the horns!

I still have to make the beard.

I think it will be amazing!

I have seriously fallen behind on the temperature blanket. I'm still writing down each day's temps. But have yet to finish February.

One of the reasons I have been slacking, is I've actually been working on my Thirty-One Gifts Business.

I came up with an idea, fingers crossed that it works.

Wish me Luck... I will take all I can get!

Still Wading Through

Hi, How are you?

Good I hope!

I am doing much better, my health scare was just that a scare.

Thank the Gods for that!

My family member that was hurt is still hurt. There hasn't been any improvement.

We go back to see the surgeon in a week.

Hopefully, he will want to run more tests to see what is actually going on.

We aren't liking this situation much, not at all.

Keeping fingers crossed that life will return back to our normal!!!

But until then.....

I will continue to crochet!

This is the Spice of Life, half done and keeping me warm!

It is working up very fast.

Hope to have it done this week!

And I will keep getting Chick-fil-A, whenever I can!

Such a treat!

I absolutely love the food!

Until next time!

Its Done!

Sophie's Universe is finally done! Only took 9 months! But not to scare anyone.... It wouldn't have taken that long if I had only worked on it more often!

I will have to wait to show you a picture of it opened up... My house is to small. So I will have to wait until the ground dries and I can spread it out in the yard!

The Good and The Bad

The Good is that we start off with Therapy!

4 weeks of it!

Keeping Fingers crossed that this will heal the injury and get my loved one back on thier feet!

The Bad is now I'm having issues with my gallbladder and something else with my stomach.

Its a never ending saga.

But the show must go on, Right?

In my down time I have been working like a mad woman to finish up Sophie.
(Still not done)

Week 18 completed!

Week 19... the dreaded squares... LOL!

Week 19 and the dreaded squares is also finished and sewn on to Sophie!

I am finally on the last week, which is the border. I have 3 3/4 rows left to do and I will be able to take a finished photo. I will have to figure out where to put it to get it all into the frame. The thing is huge!

I also started the Temperature Blanket of 2016

Gone But Not Forgotten

Life as usual has taken an unexpected turn!

I'm still here and so is my family!

But one of us has been injured & we don't know to what extent.

Hopefully, we will know more in the coming weeks.

Please keep us in your prayers!

As one heals and I try to make my Thirty-One business a job instead of a hobby!

I will be back as soon as I can.
