I'm gonna let you all in a little secret. I have never cut up a whole chicken and I certainly had never fried one. Usually I just buy breasts for the grill or baking and the whole goes in the oven to bake. I never thought I had what it took to make the illusive Southern treat. But yesterday Grim and I took the plunge. We each got a chicken to cut up.... Of course he was much better at it then me but that's ok, cause now he gets to do that all the time now! Sorry honey....LOL! We deep fried it on the stove in Crisco. The breading was flour with spices, egg and then panko bread crumbs.
We realized that we have been very foolish all these years buying it. It was time consuming but so worth the effort. I know this will sound funny.... this afternoon I opened the bag to get a piece of chicken for lunch and it smelled like fried chicken..... I know, I'm such a dork. But I took that as a sign of a job well done!
We have been eating out of our stores to purposely dwindle them down. I try to do this every other year. That way I know for sure that we have rotated everything. I am looking forward to some big purchases later this year... 1/2 a cow and 1/2 a pig. I need to get my canner cleaned off as strawberries are in season as of this past Wednesday. So it begins again.
I have finished my uncle's afghan. Hopefully, I will get a few shots of it in natural light. Its suppose to be rainy for the next couple days so it might be awhile for the pics, the work is done though! Yeah!!!
