Pumpkin Pies

Like I said they needed a post to there own!
Back near the end of October Grim and I went down to see the old woman... Who wasn't there but her family was... ( don't know if anything happened but keeping her in my prayers none the less ). We got some apples and a few small squash. While we were there I picked up 5 pie pumpkins.... I have only once in the last couple years cooked them up... Usually they end up as decorations or squirrel feed. But this year I had every intention of cooking them up. By the middle of November one of them got all mushy on the counter. So it was a do or die situation... LOL! Needless to say it was a good day to cook pumpkins!

Once the pumpkins were cooked and cooled, I blended the pulp and forced it through a fine colander to remove any chunks.... Then I weighed and put into zip top bags. Off into the freezer they went... I ended up with 4 ~ 28oz bags. Two of which were used to make 4 pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving.....

This monumental task was taken on by Picky monster.... It was her first time.... She kept coming and asking me why the color didn't match the color it should be.... In my brain fogged sickness it took me awhile to come up with an answer... Its because we used real pumpkin not canned. She did a fantastic job! I guess I don't have to make the pies anymore... LOL!

Feeling better

Now that the silly season is upon us what to do....?!? Most of my shopping is done. The house is decorated. I still have to can up the turkey broth and leftover turkey. Never got around to it the other day. I went shopping for the pantry again today. It is filling out nicely. Still some holes but we are getting there. Finally, went and worked out again. I feel almost dead... LOL! I really pushed myself to finish the workout. I finished the third hat. Yeah! Now there are 3 more hats sitting waiting for me to do something with them. I know.... I really need to get my butt in gear and post everything on etsy. Did I tell you I even bought a foam head. That way I didn't scare anyone with my head in the pictures...teehehe! If you didn't notice I'm just rambling. I felt compelled to type, but I really don't have anything to say.

Tomorrow Grim and I go back to the dentist. This will be my last visit for the year. Grim is getting a cleaning and work done. It may be his last visit for the year also... LOL! The monsters will be getting appointments for after the first of the year. Then we can all be up to date with the dental.

I decided that it was high time to show off some pictures. So out comes the camera and I start to download all 323 pictures..... Little did I remember that I allowed the oldest ones use of my camera on a road trip we took back in October. They took a whopping 243 pictures. Most were blurry as we were driving. But I would like to share a few other photos.
A storm was moving in this day... But oh, the colors were just brilliant!
 Here were our pumpkins!
Yep, those are Indian Corn Cupcakes.
Baklava....First attempt. Everyone who had some said it tasted just like baklava!
And here are the pies that Teenage monster and I made.

Well, its getting late. And I need to make sure I get to the gym in the morning.

Football and Pumpkins

Band monster has a football game tonight. It will be a loverly 55 degrees out on the field. Trust me that isn't a complaint. She won't be freezing or getting rained on and with the uniform she will be nice and toasty. But she will be gone for most of the night again. I give that kid a ton of credit, she is busting her butt to pull of marching and keep her grades up.

I was able to get a galeux d'eysines pumpkin. I would never have had the courage to purchase something like this. But Judy over at My Freezer is Full planted them this year and had a bumper crop. So I decided to get one when the opportunity presented itself. I plan on cooking it up on Sunday. Judy stated that the more warts the sweeter. I can't wait to dig into this one. I also plan on saving the seeds so that I can grow some of my own next year. I think I'm going to try and do several varieties of squash next year. Give the garden a break from peppers and eggplant. ( Went out in the garden today and found another 8, when will the madness stop!)

Grim helped me put in a walk way yesterday in front of the house in the boulevard. It has been a mud pit since we moved in and that is where I park. With the monsters back and forth nothing grows there. Every time it rains, they track a ton of mud in the house. I purchased the blocks a couple of weeks ago. The mood hit yesterday to get the deed done. Let me say that I am lucky to lift my arms today. Grim is only one handed since it is really strenuous work. He was a great help. But see usually I get these things started and he comes by and helps out and then takes over. He can't do, so I got stuck doing it..... LOL! I should know better. We need to get two more blocks but it looks great now. Bring on the rain!!!!

I decided to wait to pull out the garden till the first frost threatens. Yep, you guessed it. LAZY! All of the canning that was demanding my attention is done. I still have more if I choose to do it. But I'm not being rushed to get stuff put up before it spoils. I figure that the garden will give me just a little bit more before it's got to go. Anyways I still need to go and get more compost. Once I get off my butt and do that then I can plant the garlic and say g'night!
